November Meeting - Special Guest Speaker - Heidi Parkes and "Intentional Mending"

Heidi Parkes is a quilt and fiber artist based in Milwaukee, Wisconsin who was trained at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and turned to textile art and quilting full time after many years of teaching art in schools. She exhibited several quilts and won multiple awards at QuiltCon West in Pasadena earlier this year and will be teaching at QuiltCon East in Savannah next year.

Heidi will be lecturing about 'intentional mending' for both clothes and quilts where the mending itself is a visible addition to the piece as it moves forward with an extended life. She is inspired by the Japanese aesthetic of wabi-sabi which has been described by Buddhist author Taro Gold as "the wisdom and beauty of imperfection."

Heidi will talk about her process and her journey to embracing this style of mending, and she will work with a few guild members to discuss how they can add beauty and extend the life of pieces in their own closets.

Meeting is open to all and free to members, but there will be a $5 fee for guests.

All meetings are 2-5 pm on the third Sunday of the month, unless otherwise noted.

This month's meeting is on November 20, 2016.
